Our Vision

To instill a love of reading in the students of Crook County School District #1.

To be the welcoming heart of our school where all come to learn, discover, create, and connect. To empower students to be curious, passionate, respectful learners who explore, connect, evaluate, and create.

The library will enable our students to become seekers of ideas and information, while we help nurture an interest in reading, and will encourage a desire for lifelong learning.

Our Mission

We provide a wide range of relevant information and materials, using traditional and innovative methods, for all ages, to promote, encourage and support the diverse needs within our schools. We support and enrich our teacher’s curriculum and ensure the information is accessible to all of our students and staff.

We teach and provide up to date technology to enhance the teaching practices of the staff, and the learning of the students.

We aspire to empower learners to become critical thinkers, enthusiastic readers, skillful researchers and ethical users of information.

We aspire to empower students to learn technology and 21st-century skills incorporating collaboration, communication, creativity, critical thinking, and digital literacy.

Our Library Media Services:

  • All students have equal access to the library and its resources.
  • The library provides access to high-quality resources in a variety of formats that support curricular and instructional goals and respond to diverse student needs and interests.
  • Current technology is available and operable to support multiple learning experiences in the library and remote access to library resources.
  • Librarians facilitate professional dialog and networking among teachers, principals, and other librarians to support continuous improvement of practice.

Collection Description

Library staff select materials appropriate to the age and level of the users in our school libraries. We must also consider creating a collection that reflects the diversity of ideas and authors as well as being reflective of the population that our library serves.

Location and Scope

Sundance Elementary Library is located in the front hallway of the school past the front office, central of K-2 and 3-6 pods. Welcome to our school library and computer lab! I am so excited to spend time with your children and help them become enthusiastic readers, researchers and to further develop their love of books.

Students will have Library class one day a week. Kindergarten through second grade will have classes for 30 minutes, while third through sixth grade will have classes for 45 minutes a week. One day a week each grade will have computer/technology classes for the same time frame. During library classes your child will be able and encouraged to check out books to read. Kindergarten students will be allowed to checkout 1 book during checkout time, all other grade levels may checkout 2 books. Books must be returned before new books can be checked out. I am hopeful your child(ren) will be excited to bring their books home and share them with you! These are a great way read together to earn minutes towards your child’s classroom reading minutes! I will be encouraging our younger students to use the five-finger rule when looking for books to check out. Please encourage your child to enjoy and take care of your library materials and return them for more. Our school does not charge overdue fines; however, you will have to pay to replace a book if it is ruined for some reason.

On technology days students will bring their computers from class to the computer lab. We will have daily lessons and units that we will be following to help the students become more proficient in computer skills. Students will be monitored to be sure that they’re only on the sites that they have permission to be on.

If at any time you ever have any questions or concerns please do not hesitate to contact me by calling the school or you can shoot me an email. I am more than happy to discuss any concerns you might have. Thank you for entrusting your child with me!
