August 2025

Dear Students and Families,

Welcome back to another exciting school year at Sundance Elementary! We hope you all had a fantastic summer filled with fun, adventure, and quality time with family and friends. As we prepare to embark on this new journey together, we are thrilled to welcome both returning and new families to our school community.

We have some exciting movement within our building this year, and we’d like to share those changes with you:

  • Mrs. Olson will now be serving as the 4th-6th Grade Case Manager for Special Education.

  • Mrs. McKenzie will be taking on the role of K-3rd Grade Case Manager for Special Education.

This shift in roles will help our building run more efficiently and will better support the needs of our students at Sundance Elementary.

Additionally, you’ll notice that Mrs. Wiegel has moved to 4th Grade, and Ms. Nistler has moved to 1st Grade. We also want to welcome Thersia (Te) Turbiville to our kitchen staff this year—please help us in giving her a warm welcome!

Important Dates to Remember:

  • Open House / Meet Your Teacher Night: Thursday, August 14 from 5:00 PM – 6:00 PM

  • First Day of School: Tuesday, August 19 at 8:10 AM (Breakfast begins at 7:45 AM)

During the Open House, you’ll have the opportunity to meet your child’s teacher, drop off school supplies, and connect with other families in our school community. We encourage you to attend and get involved!

This year, we will continue offering our after-school program and Enrichment Fridays, with many exciting activities planned that will help enrich your child’s educational experience. We are excited to see our students grow and succeed both academically and socially.

Important Handbook Change:

We’ve made an important change to the student handbook this year regarding illness. Students must be fever-free for 24 hours before returning to school. We hope this will help eliminate the spread of sickness throughout the school year, as we’ve seen in the past. If your child returns before the 24-hour fever-free period, we will need to send them home.

Communication is Key

Please make sure you’re signed up for ParentSquare to stay updated on important news, newsletters, and announcements throughout the year. We also encourage you to reach out to your child’s teacher with any questions or concerns.

The Importance of School Attendance

One of the key factors in achieving academic success is regular school attendance. When students are present in the classroom, they benefit from direct instruction, engage in collaborative learning experiences, and build strong relationships with peers and teachers. Consistent attendance ensures that your child is fully prepared to reach their potential.

If your child will be absent, please notify the school office as soon as possible so we can ensure they don’t miss out on any important learning.

Thank you for being a vital part of our school community. We look forward to a fantastic year filled with learning, laughter, and unforgettable memories. Together, let’s make this school year the best one yet!

Warm regards,

Robert Wiegel, Sundance Elementary School Principal
